The Cow Pie Crank

The 2011 Cow Pie Crank will be held this Saturday September 17, 2011 at 7am.

This is your chance to hit all of Payson Canyon's finest trails in one ride.

This is a self-supported ride.

You may ride the Cow Pie Crank as fast or as slow as you like.  Ride it ITT or with friends.

We will start at parking area along the large hairpin curve on the Nebo Loop Road where both the bottom of the Bennie Creek trail exits and the Grotto trail starts.

You can get water at the Blackhawk Campground but it is around 2/3 into the ride.  Rock Springs is also another option (Jesse claims it is safe to drink from the Spring).

Dan Z. and I (I was on my SS) rode the course last Saturday and our moving time was 4 hours and 11 minutes.  Total time was 4:59 for adjusting lights, cameras, eating, and changing a flat.

Plan on 42.8 miles and 8,695 feet of climbing!

And the amazing downhills of Stumpjumper, Jones Ranch, and BENNIE CREEK!

The ride will consist of the following trails:

  • Ride up the Nebo Loop road for 2 miles and take a right onto Pete Winward dirt road
  • Pete Winward to Shram Creek
  • Shram Creek to Sheepherders (99)
  • Sheepherders to Santaquin Canyon Meadow
  • Santaquin Canyon dirt road up to Lizard Lake Trail
  • Lizard Lake Trail  to the Stumpjumper Downhill
  • Up Shram Creek (I affectionately call this the 3 Amigos, Dusty Bottoms, Ned Nederlander, and Lucky Day because of the 3 steep climbs) to Lizard Lake Trail
  • Lizard Lake to Frank Young to Nebo Loop Road
  • Nebo Loop Road to Upper Jones Ranch
  • Upper Jones Ranch to Jones Ranch to Nebo Loop Road
  • Nebo Loop Road to Loafer Mountain/Blackhawk  ****(Here you could end the ride and go down Bennie Creek if you ran out of time and can't ride Blackhawk if you desire)
  • Blackhawk to Frank Young
  • Frank Young to Rock Springs
  • Rock Springs to Jones Ranch
  • Jones Ranch to Nebo Loop Road to Bennie Creek
  • Bennie Creek Downhill to finish
Here the map my gps made during the ride. (http://gps.motionx.com/maps/996f57693ca4eeab5c32efa14d3f8d28)

Here is the data from Dan Z.'s Garmin.  Looks like it didn't track the start correctly. (maybe that is our mileage difference in the 2 gps systems)

If you need the gpx file drop me an southcountyciclista at gmail dot com or looks like there is a link off of Dan Z.'s Garmin to get the data.

Now who is ready for the challenge?

Tell your friends and come ride!
