Miles and I rode up the pavement to the Summit Trail and down Horse. Right by Salamander Flats there was a big Bull Moose right off the road. He had a really black coat and a large set of antlers. And if one moose was not enough, while riding up the Summit Trail we saw a Cow Moose and her baby. We cautiously waited for mother and baby to leave the trail and get a safe distance before we proceeded. Not too often you see 3 moose in one morning.Horse was a great descent, but the recent rain had made the plants on the already overgrown trail hang over into the trail getting you quite wet. In fact inside my shoes my feet were sloshing around. Good morning for the wool socks and arm warmers (even though I wear wool socks all the time).
Horse dropped us out at Timpooneke for a ripping fast descent to the Timpooneke parking lot. The rain sure has packed down all the loamy pine needles into some great trail. A short climb up the dirt road to where we could descend down Bear Canyon. Bear Canyon was a blast. It has seen a little water wear during the past couple days, but fast, technical, and fun.
Not sure why (maybe they were too hot and wet) but my front brake started losing power towards the bottom of the descent. So much that I couldn't make one corner and a fallen tree stopped my sliding.
Not a bad way to start a Friday morning.
