Last night the night ride started a little later than usual. I actually preferred it since it allowed me to get my kids in bed and help my wife out a little more.
Great night ride up Clark's, Jacobs Ladder, Ghost, New Trail, Clark's.
I have only ridden up Clark's a handful of time and only once in daylight. Most of the time it is at night. We last night no one wanted to lead so I thought sure, why not. How about trying to see what your time is up the Clark's TT.
Clark's TT start
I was riding my single speed and soon felt what seemed like blood pouring out of my skull because my heart was pounding my head so hard. It was soon followed with the cold tingling in my arms from overexertion.
Blow up
Then the thoughts started coming into my head.
Why are you doing this?
How long is this trail anyway and where is the end?
Am I there yet?
Hang on?
Clark's TT end
I couldn't hold the pace I was carrying and ended up barely moving at the end. My legs didn't feel that great but oh well 11:11 it is.
We continued up Jacobs and then the descent. It was loose and fast, but Jacobs is one of my favorite descent around. I love that even during a night ride you can ride it so fast.
I got the hole shot going down Ghost. I really enjoy flying down a trail at night that I really have no idea where I am going or what is coming up next. I am glad I have a really bright HID light to guide my way. Way too much fun.
After climbing the new trail back up to Clark's we took the Clark's downhill. Another crazy fact is that I have only descended Clark's at night and this being the second time. I almost ended up down in the ravine as I took a corner with too much speed and slid off the trail. But that is what keeps the night ride interesting.
Since my drive home takes me awhile, I have time to cool off. Normally I will just wipe down and hop into bed dirty. But tonight was extra warm during the ride. In fact it was still 78F at the finish of the ride at 11:45pm.
I didn't want to wake the house up but I needed to shower. Not sure why I have never thought of this before but I hurried downstairs in the basement and took a shower there away from all the bedrooms upstairs. I soon found myself wanting to go to sleep but, I didn't want to get out of the hot water. Now I was clean and everyone was still asleep including my wife.
Even though I was so quiet not to wake anyone, my wife must have been having a bad dream or something and freaked out when I climbed into bed. She thought I was somebody trying to get her. I narrowly missed her attack with a quick dodge. (And no I wasn't trying to make any moves, I was just getting in to lay down clearly on my side.)
Maybe I will sleep downstairs in the guest room next time.
